Horama

Horama is an island nation in the world of Creare, which is mostly isolated due to a vast dungeon across the seafloor effectively looping it, making sea travel incredibly dangerous if not impossible for most, and disrupting air travel at a great range.

People

The people of Horama are predominantly magically gifted, presumably due to the dungeon beneath their home's influence, but aside from that dominant trait are diverse in both manner and class. Horama is ruled by a magic-based meritocracy, where the most magically-gifted are deemed to be the most fit to rule. Over time this idea has been somewhat diluted by politics, nepotism and self-interest, but the ruling body and the families surrounding it are still some of the most powerful mages on the island.

Government

The ruling body is known as the Sixfold Chair, though two of their number are missing. One is presumed late, due to a mishap with time travel, and the other's whereabouts, whoabouts, whatabouts, whenabouts, and whyabouts are unknown, with the seat being kept open out of concern that giving the seat of a chair member away might draw dangerous levels of ire from the original holder if they ever return to claim it.

Geography

Natural Geography

Horama is a rocky and vertical island, with the average altitude increasing the further inland you go. Only in some of the coastal regions is the land fit for farming crops or the raising of animals, with many rivers descending from higher regions.

Settlements

The majority of buildings across Horama are tall spires and towers, the height of such often being an indicator of the owner's status. Most of them are connected via a complicated network of aqueduct-like bridges.
